I.So far the Danish government has kept quite quiet when it comes to the Mohammad cartoons. The PM of Denmark has not condemned the cartoons or stuck behind the cartoonist's freedom of press. Many Muslims are angered by this response, because they clearly want him to condemn the cartoons.

II. The main topic of discussion in today's class involved the conflict over the Danish cartoonist publishing cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed. The belief of many Muslims is that there shall be no depictions of the prophet Mohammed. Recently, these cartoons have sparked many violent protests in Arab nations. The main dispute of this cartoon is whether the Cartoonist had the right to publish them or if the cartoonist went way to far offending a whole religion. We got into many discussionsa involving freedom of speech (press), double standards, & respect for religion. We also watched many clips of footage discussing the cartoon situation and read articles about it. Also, we actually got to see the cartoons that had offended so many. One of the pieces of footage we watched were from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. In the clip they just made fun of all the violence that has erupted over a cartoon. Once the discussion was over, watched one of the documentaries about Christmas. We only watched a little of it, but it was maybe on the boring side(not to say that my group's wasn't). :)

III. The main cartoon offending so many Muslims, was a picture of the prophet Mohammed wearing a bomb on his head instead of a turban.

IV. I want to know exactly when the cartoons depicting Mohammad were published. I wonder why all these people have just began rioting.

V. I have a distinct opinion when it comes to the cartoon issue. My belief is that the cartoonist who published the cartoons had the freedom to make the cartoons. I believe that the rioters, or those offended are definitely overreacting in this situation. They need to learn to respect the freedom of others. Also, they are going back and publishing cartoons of the holocaust...and you do not see the whole country of Israel rioting.
