Daniel Turko/2-24-06/3-8...........More Cheating
I.What I found out is that most of the time when a student breaks the honor code in college, they are kicked out of that school. In other cases, students who had broken honor codes were stripped of any scholarships or even suspended from the college.
II. Today we continued with our long discussion of questions in section 2.1 in the collge life book. The main discussion today was centered around whether you should turn someone in for cheating or not. Some people in the class thought that it was not their responsibility to report people who cheated. They felt that it was the job of the cheater to come forward because the burden is on the cheater and nobody else. Also, that you should only focus on your work and perform at your hardest, ignoring those who cheat. Saying who cares what others do, if I just worry about my work I will be fine. Then, there were the people who said that they would definitely turn in cheaters. These people felt that it was not fair for others to cheat while they are working fairly. That cheaters should not always be able to get by successfully through cheating without being caught. This discussion definitely drew a fine line between people on the issue of cheating.
III. I never knew that in some cases the colleges actually review the cheating of students, considering whether they had an unfair advantage due to large class sizes, or something of that nature.
IV. I am wonder what the statistics are for students that cheat in high school and in college.
V. I have a strong opinion on what you should do if you encounter a cheater. I feel you should take no responsibility in turning them in, and leave the burden on their shoulders. You should mind only to your work and do the best that you can. And if you can not be satisfied by your hardest work alone, then you will be sucked into cheating also. Because if you can not get something through your hardest work you will ultimately resort to cheating.
